Gloria with Cathy--I love that Cathy, the matriarch of the herd, carried Gloria the matriarch of the feminist movement. Nice, huh? While a youngster, Cathy was captured in Uganda and taken to a zoo outside Toronto. She returned to Botswana in 1990. She leads the safari. Most of the elephants in the safari have been rescued from zoos and circuses. The eldest, Benny, who was captured in South Africa, moved to a zoo in Chicago and then to Fort Worth Zoo in Texas returned to Botswana in 1990. It took him a long time to habituate to his new surroundings but he was just released to retire in the wild in July 2005. We wish him well.
